Here’s a gallery of our original 4×8′ layout. It was retired when we started construction on the new 14.5×10′ layout.
You can see it featured a figure 8 loop an oval around the outside and a couple of spur tracks.
We had a great time forming the hills / mountain areas with the kids. We used rolls of Woodlands Scenic’s Plaster Cloth on one of the grades, and we made a home made version for the other side, using Chux style dishcloth (maybe something similar to Handi Wipes in the US?) and plaster of Paris! Worked pretty well 🙂 I’ll do a separate post documenting that process.
